Residence visa for teleworking (digital nomad)

Visa for foreigners who wish to carry out remote work or professional activities for companies located outside of Spain, using only computer, telematics, or telecommunication means.

Foreigners who carry out an activity as employees may only work for companies located outside of Spain.

Foreigners who are self-employed (as freelancers) may also work for companies located in Spain, provided that the percentage of such work does not exceed 20% of their total activity.

To obtain this visa, it is necessary to have a graduate or postgraduate degree issued by universities of recognized prestige, vocational training centers or business schools of recognized prestige, or to prove a minimum of three years of professional experience.

The following family members of the teleworker can also obtain a visa:

  • The spouse or common-law partner.
  • Minor children and those over that age who are financially dependent on the teleworker and who have not formed a family unit themselves.
  • The ascendants who are in charge of the teleworker.

It is necessary to apply for an NIE at the same time as the visa (See section Passports and other documents > Foreigner Identification Number).

Photo Specifications

Please provide one recent photograph (not more than 6 months old) of yourself, which should not have been used previously in the passport. The photograph should be in colour and:

  • Taken against white background so that features are distinguishable and contrast against the background.
  • Clear share quality and with the face in focus.
  • Printed on normal photographic paper (camera print).
  • Full face, non-smiling [without sunglasses, a hat/cap or other head covering, unless the applicant wears such items because of their religious belief or ethnic background]
  • Please stick the Photograph on the Visa Application Form.
